St. Thomas Clinic was founded in April of 1996 by Johnson County and St. Thomas Episcopal Church leaders to address the unmet medical needs of county residents.  Our founding vision remains unchanged:  to live out the vision of a society in which all have access to medical care regardless of their ability to pay.  Support from the Partnership for a Healthier Johnson County, Johnson Memorial Hospital, and the Johnson County Health Department was crucial in the creation of the free medical clinic housed in St. Thomas Church, and open to serve low income, uninsured, Johnson County adults.

The first director, The Rev. Judith Culpepper, M.D. shepherded the fledgling clinic, establishing the clinic along with Dr. Bob Goshorn. Under their leadership, and those that have followed, the clinic has continued to expand its services, providing medical services, non-narcotic medications, social services referrals, prescription assistance enrollment, respiratory services, diabetes education, and dental referral services. With your support, and the support of our community partners and volunteers, the Clinic continues to grow and serve the community.

We are a member of the National Association of Free Clinics

Partnerships with an increasing numbers of medical practices, businesses, and community organizations have increased the scope of care we are able to offer our patients. It’s an honor to serve Johnson County by collaborating with county residents and our supporters.

We are always available to speak to groups about our work, and would welcome any ideas you might have for future collaboration or support.  Feel free to contact the clinic at stthomasclinic@aol.com
